Join us in celebrating and fundraising for the documentary-in-progress One World: The Art of Joy Brown. I will talk about my work, we’ll show outtakes from the film, and enjoy a glass of wine. I hope you can come! This film will be a beautiful and important record of my life’s work. It follows my journey--from deep family roots in China and my childhood and apprenticeship in Japan, to my decades of work in the US in clay and the wood firing community here. It finally circles back to Japan and China through the story of the making of my recent mural and many large-scale bronze figures, always including the friendships that support me.
I count my friendship with Eduardo Montes-Bradley, award-winning documentarian, as one of those important relationships. Not only is he passionate about this project, he sees my work deeply, and as a fellow global citizen he understands the nuances of a multicultural experience. Eduardo is following me around the world. He traveled to Japan to film the installation of the mural and will head to China next to film the making of the big bronze sculptures. This film is both a tribute to my life’s work and an inspiring educational resource for schools, libraries, and museums worldwide.
Fundraising with Joy With the help of this amazing community, we have raised almost half of our $190,000 budget. The film’s expected release date is October, 2024. We welcome any size contribution.
